The route of the Ausangate trek and Mountain of Colors. It is very rugged of earth and stones, but this walk will offer us a spectacular and beautiful landscape of the Puna region, where glaciers and mountains of colors will surround our visual field, border lakes and Andean camelids will accompany us in parts of our route.

For the Andean cosmovision, the Apu Ausangate (6,380 meters / 20,923 feet) is the most important sacred mountain in the vicinity of the City of Cusco and the high plateau. This sacred mountain is located south east of the city of Cusco capital of the so-called Empire of the Incas and in the eastern mountain range of the Andes.

At Ausangate trek and Montaña de Colores, the path will physically demand us the most and it is considered a high-altitude trek, we will cross more than 5,000 meters above sea level, and our camps will be at more than 4,400 meters above sea level.

The predominant climate will be the cold, passing nights below -5ºC and during the day the temperature will reach approximately 15ºC.

Cold wind most of the day, but we know that the weather is unpredictable, having to wait even for rain and snow, but doing this adventure Ausangate trek and Mountain of Colors in the Andes of Cusco will be something different and an unforgettable experience.

DURATION: 6 days and 5 nights.

Day 1 Cusco (3,350m) – Upis (4200m)

Our pick-up starts at (7:00 am) on our private bus, the journey begins in Cusco, to the south of Cusco that leads to Puno, we will pass by the last rest of the Wari culture called Pikillacta and the colonial villages of Andahuaylillas and huaro known as the town of mysticism and we will observe at a distance the Vilcanota mountain range and the Ausangate, the car trip will last 4 hours until we arrive at the community school of Upis, from this point we will begin the walk towards the community of Upis (4200m.snm) for 3 hours, here we will have our lunch and then go to the thermal baths of the place, in this place we will camp.

Day 2: Upis (4200m) – Pasa Arapa (4700m) – Pucacocha (4300m) Anampata (4,800m)

After our delicious breakfast (07:00 am), we will begin the hike ascending for 2 hours until we reach Arapa pass (4700ms.nm) crossing the mountain we will begin to descend to Pucacocha (4300m.snm) in this place we will have our lunch, then we will start to ascend to the Pucacocha pass (4700ms.nm) from this point we can see in the distance the lagoons of Paucarqocha, Hatun Pukaqocha, Vinaqocha, Huchuy Punaqocha, we will continue the hike for about 1 hour until we reach the base camp of Anampata (4800ms.nm ) where we will camp.

Day 3: Anampata (4800m) – Paso Huarmisaya (5000m) Mountain 7 Colors (5100m) – Ausangate Cocha (4700m)

After breakfast (05:00 am), very early, we continue with our journey ascending until we reach the pass of Huarmisaya (woman stopped) (5000m.snm), then we will continue descending for 25min aprox to the Qomercocha lagoon where we will appreciate Andean birds, trout Andean, continuing the walk for a few steps up and down 40 minutes more to reach the mountain 7 colors (5100ms.nm) in this beautiful place where you can see the mountain in its different manifestations of nature’s own colors, we will stay in the place for 45 min or depends on the client until the time you want to stay, then return to the same place where we started the walk, lunch at Ananpata Base Camp, after lunch we will continue the walk on a flat path until you reach Ausangate Cocha ( 4700ms.nm) place of encampment.

Day 4: Ausangate Cocha (4700m) – Palomani (5200m) – Jampa Pampa (4,700m)

This day after nutritive breakfast (08:00 am) we will start the hike ascending to the highest point of the Alto Palomani (5200m.snm) hike. From this point we will be able to appreciate the imposing snow of Ausangate and its surroundings, this is where we will be paying the ritual to the pacha mama putting stones and coca leaves in the place, then we will begin to descend 1 ½ hours to Finayapampa (4600m.snm) where we will have lunch, then we will start walking between ascents and descents for an approximate of 2 ½ hours until you reach the Jampapampa camp (4700m.snm) is between where we will camp

After our nutritious breakfast (8:00 am), we will continue our hike ascending to Jampa Pass (5100m.snm) of a 3 hour hike, then continue down the left bank where we will appreciate very interesting lagoons of different colors which are unique to the area, we will have lunch near the Azul Cocha lagoon (4600m.snm), then we will continue descending for 2 ½ hours until arriving at the thermal baths of Pacchanta (4300m.snm) in this place we will camp tonight we will relax in the thermo medicinal baths of the place.

Having spent our last night close to Ausangate we go (07:00), and very easily for 4 hours walking through an open field allows us to appreciate some viewpoints Ausangate, then continue returning to the village Tinqui, where we meet our transportation and return to Cusco. We will be in the city of Cusco around 4 or 5 pm.
