Amantani Island is 40 km (25 miles) away from the city of Puno (3 hours of normal boat navigation). Amantani has approximately 3,800 inhabitants and the majority are of Quechua origin. The main economic activity is agriculture and its most important crops are: Andean potatoes, barley and green beans and quinoa.

Day 1: Uros – Amantani.
At 7:30 am we start the day off by going from the hotel to the port. After that, we will go to Uros Floating Islands by boat. Stepping on these islands feels very much like a waterbed, we will see the houses, the islands; rides on traditional reed boats can be arranged. We will visit 2 of the 30 islands before continuing on to Amantani Island. After a 3-hour trip, we will get to Amantani. We will probably see local families running down the hill to welcome us. In the port, we will break up into smaller groups for homestays. Lunch will be served by our designated family. After the optional football match, we will hike up to the highest point of the island to watch the sunset. At dinner, our designated family will dress us up in traditional local costumes and take us to the community hall for a small celebration, it is a lot of fun! We can feel the energy of this live culture.
Day 2: Amantani – Taquile – Puno.
Breakfast and we leave to Taquile Island. After a 1-hour boat ride we will get to this unique place. There, a long, gradually ascending path will take us to the village (an approximate 50 minute hike), to visit the communal cooperative. Free time for lunch in one of the local restaurants. The views are outstanding. We will then go 500 steps down to the port. We get back in Puno at around 4:00.
